Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Sanjay Manjrekar reacted strongly after the Indian national cricket team’s disappointing tour of England. India ended their England tour on the worst note as they suffered a crushing 4-0 defeat in the five-match T20 series.

The series defeat became one of the darkest chapters in India’s T20I history as the team failed to win a single complete match under new captain Shreyas Iyer.

This heavy defeat not only handed India several unwanted records, but also ended their long stay as the world No. 1 T20 team. Meanwhile, BCCI has sacked fielding coach T Dilip after India’s disappointing performance in the T20 series against England.

After England crisis, Sanjay Manjrekar pointed fingers at BCCI and IPL

England overtook India on top of the ICC men’s T20I rankings after completely dominating the visitors in the five-match T20I series. After the final T20I on July 11, Sanjay Manjrekar blamed BCCI and IPL for such a shameful performance on the UK tour.

He has pointed to the impact of the IPL on India’s batting while defending the players after consecutive T20 series defeats in Ireland and England. He believes the main problem lies in the system that grooms Indian batsmen, saying the IPL has created a false picture of their ability.

The final match at the Rose Bowl summed up India’s difficult tour. England completed the series on a high note by defeating India by 56 runs in the fifth and final T20I in Southampton on Saturday (July 11). Jos Buttler scored 131 off 64 balls, while Harry Brook scored an unbeaten 95, helping England post a mammoth total of 257/3. Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer finished the England T20I series with an unbeaten captaincy record of 14.

They also made a record 233-run partnership for the second wicket in men’s T20I. India’s bowling and fielding disappointed once again. Without Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, the bowlers struggled badly, while the fielders dropped catches and conceded 17 sixes.

Chasing 258 runs, India could only score 201/8 runs. Ishan Kishan scored 56 runs, Tilak Verma scored 53 runs and Shreyas Iyer added a quickfire 28 runs, but the target was too big and Sam Curran made things difficult by taking three wickets. This series also exposed India’s batting problems.

Apart from Iyer’s unbeaten 80 and half-centuries from Kishan and Tilak in Bristol, other batsmen like Abhishek Sharma, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Sanju Samson failed to make a big impact.

After consecutive T20 series wins against Ireland and England, the BCCI is now set to review the team’s poor performance as India’s new coaching and leadership group faces heavy criticism after the disappointing England tour.
