Former Team India opener Akash Chopra has defended Jaspreet Bumrah, when Sanjay Manjrekar criticized Passer’s workload management in Test cricket. Chopra called Bumrah India’s “Kohinoor” and said the 31 -year -old bowler should be allowed to take his days without moral decision.
Bumrah played three out of five Tests during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. It was first decided that he would relax to manage his workload and reduce the risk of injury. He painted in the first, third and fourth tests. Pacer missed the second Test and was released after the fifth Test started.
During the series, Bumrah bowled 119.4 overs, taking 14 wickets, consisting of two-five-wicket haws. However, his charge management criticized former Indian cricketers.

Jasprit is going to take Bumrah and choose – Akash Chopra
Sanjay Manjrekar criticized India for handling the charge of Jaspreet Bumrah during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He said that the team should not be built around Bumrah and Pesar should not be considered a ‘frontline’ pick.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Akash Chopra opened about whether Jasprit Bumrah must retire from trials to focus on white ball. He said that India should use a player of its caliber whenever it is available.
“I will be honest, I don’t think he will play all Test matches. He is going to choose and choose. Is it right or wrong, it’s not a moral or moral debate that I think. If you have a player of that level, then whenever he can,” Chopra said in a video on his Youtube channel, as is quoted by Sportskida.
Do not forcibly push him towards initial retirement – Akash Chopra
Akash Chopra stated that the bowlers are naturally rotated during a test chain. He said that the absence of Jasprit Bumrah did not disrupt the team. Chopra described Bumrah as “Kohinoor Diamond” and urged that he should not be pushed into early retirees.
“Jasprit Bumrah, as a bowler, you can adjust the bowling combination very easily. It doesn’t matter. If Bumrah was a batsman, a number 4 or a opener, and he said that he would play two matches and do not play after that, it is a problem. The bowlers should be a problem.
“There is no bowler like Bumrah. Don’t forcibly push him towards retirement quickly as he is 24 carat pure gold. He is a Kohinoor diamond. The longer he plays, the better it is. I don’t think he will play a lot of Test cricket, although he plays for a long time, I will hold on it,” he said.
Since June 2024, Jasprit Bumrah has not shown a white ball match for India.
Jasprit Bumrah has not shown a white ball match for India since the final of the T20 World Cup 2024 in Barbados, where he took 2 wickets for 18 runs as India achieved their second T20 World Cup. He also recalled the first Champions Trophy in 2025 due to back injury, but returned to IPL 2025.
The selectors led by Ajit Agkar are expected to announce the India’s squad for the 2025 Asia Cup, which will be played in the T20 format from 9 to 28 September.
India, led by Suryakumar Yadav, will launch its campaign against UAE in Dubai on September 10, will face Pakistan at the same place on 14 September, and concludes the group stage with the match against Oman in Abu Dhabi on 19 September.
