Sanath Jayasuriya resigns as Sri Lanka coach: Sri Lankan coach Sanath Jayasuriya was appointed as the head coach of the Sri Lankan team in 2024, and after a good run with the Lankans, he has a bang ahead of their ICC T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.
Former Sri Lanka captain Sanath Jayasuriya was handed the full-time role as head coach of the men’s national cricket team by the SLC in October 2024; However, he took up the role of interim coach following the departure of former coach Chris Silverwood in July.
Under the leadership of Jayasuriya, Sri Lankan cricket witnessed a new dawn of satisfactory performances across all formats of the game. Playing under his leadership, Sri Lanka won their first ODI bilateral series against India after 27 years and then recorded their first Test win in England in 10 years. Jayasuriya also led the whitewash in the home Test against New Zealand.
Sanath Jayasuriya will step down as Sri Lankan head coach after the T20 World Cup.

After his successful stint as interim coach with the Lankan team, he was handed the full-time coaching role. However, after some early success, they were disappointed as they failed to qualify for the Champions Trophy in 2025 and then crashed out of the Super-4 stage of the Asia Cup after losing to India, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
After leading Sri Lanka in the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup, where they are co-hosts of the tournament, Sanath Jayasuriya has decided to step down as head coach and informed Sportspavilion.lk about the same.
“Sri Lanka men’s cricket team head coach Sanath Jayasuriya, in response to inquiries made by us, told Sportspavilion.lk that he has decided to step down from his post after the upcoming T20 World Cup,” Sportspavilion.lk wrote in its official update.
