England all-rounder Samit Patel announced his retirement from domestic cricket after playing in the banned franchise league. The experienced all-rounder was still active and even looking for another English domestic cricket gig, but a decision forced him to take this difficult decision.
The 41-year-old took part in the World Legends Pro T20 League in Goa earlier this year, due to which he was not allowed to play in the T20 Blast this summer. Actually the thing is that he is not allowed to play domestic cricket in England for 12 months.
Samit Patel retires after ECB ban
In fact, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) had already made it clear that if English players have participated in “unapproved” leagues like the World Legends Pro T20 League, they will not be allowed to play domestic cricket for 12 months.

As a result, Patel decided to follow domestic cricket, as there was no point in waiting for a year at the age of 41. However, the all-rounder is ready to play franchise cricket around the world. He is also thinking about moving into coaching or other roles in the game.

He has also expressed interest in working with Trent Rockets during The Hundred. Apart from this, he will continue playing club cricket on weekends to stay connected with the game.
“I probably wouldn’t have played it,” BBC Sport quoted Samit Patel as saying [the World Legends League]. There was a lot of uncertainty about whether we would be able to play or not, but now we can’t get past that. It just brought me this stuff. I would play this summer. I had some talks with some countries; We were not in a position to sign any contract, but we were in talks, so perhaps an agreement might have been reached somewhere at the last minute.
