Sam Ayub pulls off an un-Pakistani move, shows superman effort to deny Tom Curran a boundary

Saim Ayub produced one of the incredible moments during the Pakistan Super League 2026 (PSL 2026) match between Quetta Gladiators and Hyderabad Kingsmen at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday, March 29.

The moment the fans got to see on the third ball of 18 overs. Quetta Gladiators batsman Tom Curran hit a short ball from Riley Meredith. It seemed like it would be an easy boundary, but Saim Ayub did not let that happen at Gaddafi Stadium.

The young Pakistani opener, who was positioned at third man, ran, jumped in the air and caught the ball with perfect timing. At first glance, it looked like Sam had taken a clean catch, but the momentum pushed him towards the boundary cushion.

And that’s when he worked his magic, just before his exit, as he thrashed the ball back into the ground, saving two crucial runs for his Hyderabad Kingsmen team in the ongoing PSL 2026 clash. This was a rare effort which has now gone viral on social media.

In the next over, Ayub once again surprised everyone with his fielding efforts and this time too Curran became the victim. As the England all-rounder was hitting big shots, Akif Javed sent a full ball on middle and leg stump.

Curran moved his front foot out of the way and tried to hit it in the air towards the leg side. The bullet went high and it looked like it might fall safely. But, once again, Sam had different plans. He ran a long distance from deep, kept his eyes on the ball and then dived forward at the last moment.

Sam caught the ball just a few inches above the ground. Thanks to his remarkable efforts, Tom returned to the pavilion after scoring 31 runs in 18 balls, which included one four and three sixes.

Sam Ayub became the victim of a brutal ball from Alzarri Joseph.

However, the Hyderabad Kingsmen opener failed to perform well with the bat and was out on the fourth ball in the ongoing PSL 2026. Alzarri Joseph came back strong with pace and aggression, hitting 136.3 km/h and hitting the deck hard after giving Sam a few boundaries.

The ball was of short length and bounced more than Ayub expected. The young Pakistani opening batsman leaned back and tried to direct the ball behind square towards the off side. But he could not get into the right position to play the shot properly. Due to extra bounce, the ball touched his gloves.

The ball went straight to wicketkeeper Ben McDermott, who took a simple catch and sent Sam back to the dugout with 8 runs off 4 balls as his team chased 175 runs to win the 5th PSL 2026 match in Lahore. Hyderabad Kings have already lost three wickets for 35 runs.
