Saim Ayub trains amid heavy rain and storm, raising health concerns amid PSL 2026

A dramatic video from Lahore has taken social media by storm and it features none other than Pakistan and Hyderabad Kingsmen’s young all-rounder Saim Ayub. His training session became one of the most talked-about moments of the ongoing Pakistan Super League 2026 (PSL 2026).

Fans were left stunned after the video of Sam batting in difficult conditions went viral on social media platforms, with some praising his commitment while many were worried about his safety.

In the clip, Sam was seen completely drenched and batting in the nets at the LCCA Ground in Lahore on March 31. Sheets were falling on the ground due to rain, the pitch was slippery and thunder kept rolling, but still he continued his batting practice as if nothing was happening around him.

Marnus Labuschagne praised Sam Ayub’s dedication

The video went viral after Hyderabad Kingsmen captain Marnus Labuschagne posted it on his Instagram story. In the clip, the 23-year-old was seen playing a big shot down the leg side despite heavy rain. Marnus recorded his own practice.

Sam can be heard calling him “shot boy” after hitting the ball into the nets. Even the new PSL franchise shared the clip on his account (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Saim, don’t you get tired? “

Sam’s intense training session comes at a time when the Kingsmen are struggling badly. The new franchise has lost both its matches so far in the ongoing PSL 2026 and is currently at the bottom of the points table. There is a lot of pressure on them for their next match against Multan Sultans.

Saim Ayub’s struggle deepens in PSL 2026

Notably, Sam was signed by the Kingsmen for a whopping sum of Rs 126 million as a direct signing before the draft. The team expected an explosive start from him, but he failed miserably. In the first two matches, the Pakistani opener has scored only 17 runs against Lahore Qalandars and 8 against Quetta Gladiators. His poor form has badly affected the Kingsmen’s form in the current season.

Ayub has been facing a lot of criticism after his poor campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026. He could only score 70 runs in five innings in the tournament with a highest score of 24 and an average of just 14 and the Men in Green failed to make the top four.

Following his poor form, Pakistan selectors dropped Sam from the ODI squad for the recent three-match series in Bangladesh. Pakistan lost that ODI series to the host team 2–1.

Sam’s Pakistan and Pakistan Super League numbers

Talking about his international career, Sam played 67 T20Is, 17 ODIs and 8 Tests for Pakistan. He has over 3400 runs to his name across all formats at the highest level.
