After this incident, BCCI filed an official complaint against Sahibzada Farhan with the ICC. The ICC hearing took place in Dubai on Friday (26 September) and the Pakistan opener defended his action, saying it was not politically motivated.
According to a report in India today, Sahibzada Farhan cited previous examples, given that former Indian captain MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli had similar ceremonies on the field. He also said that, as a Pathan, such gestures are part of cultural expressions in his territory and is usually seen during joyful opportunities.
