The ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL 2026) on April 1 witnessed a historic run chase in the Hyderabad Kingsmen vs Multan Sultans match. Thanks to Fakhar Zaman’s brilliant innings of unbeaten 106 runs in 57 balls, Sultans achieved the challenging target of 226 runs with 8 balls remaining. With this T20 century, the Pakistan international opener broke the record of former India captain Rohit Sharma and joined Virat Kohli in the top ranking.
Farhan left Rohit Sharma behind after scoring his 9th T20 century. Whereas Rohit has 8 T20 centuries to his name so far.
Hyderabad Kingsmen vs Multan Pakistan IPL 2026 Match Summary
Talking about the high-scoring matches in PSL 2026, Hyderabad Kingsmen, one of the two franchises that recently joined the league, posted a massive score of 225 in 20 overs losing only 5 batsmen. Maaz Sadaqat (62 runs on 26 balls) and Sharjeel Khan (51 not out on 26 balls) were the main strengths of the innings. Usman Khan, Saad Ali and Irfan Khan Niazi also played well to take the run rate to the roof.
In contrast to the performance of Hyderabad Kingsmen as a unit, Multan Sultans’ run chase was mostly dependent on Sahibzada Farhan after the dismissal of Steve Smith. Smith and Farhan made a partnership of 104 runs in 8.1 overs. After the wicket of Steve Smith, the team’s batting order faltered a bit.
Farhan’s courageous innings was an example of class and temperament and a strong will to win the match. During the run chase, Shan Masood (29) and Arafat Minhas (26*) made important contributions. While Smith provided the early spark, Sahibzada Farhan was the undisputed hero of the evening, and obviously the player of the match.
Sahibzada Farhan made many records in his name with his match-winning century.
After the century, Farhan is now jointly fourth in the all-time list of century scorers in T20 along with Indian cricket legend Virat Kohli and South African batsman Riley Rossouw.
These three batsmen have 9-9 T20 centuries in their names. David Warner (10), Babar Azam (11) and Chris Gayle (22) are at third, second and first positions respectively. Farhan is also the second fastest player to reach nine T20 centuries after playing 160 innings. He is after West Indies legend Chris Gayle who achieved this feat in 127 innings.
Sahibzada Farhan is continuously scoring runs
After the match, Sahibzada Farhan said, “I feel the centuries I have been scoring in domestic cricket are now helping me at the international level (on the pitch and form). Whenever I touch fifty or sixty, I try not to waste it and aim to convert it into a big score – nine centuries is a big achievement, but I want to score more.”
Sahibzada Farhan has been in form since the T20 World Cup 2026. For his solo effort, the ICC awarded him the Player of the Month award. Before PSL 2026, there was news that Farhan was injured. He worked on fitness and picked back up from where he left off.
