Legendary South African cricketer AB de Villiers has unveiled his all-time World XI, which surprised the cricket world, which is on the banks of the ongoing World Championship of Legends 2025 (WCL 2025), where he is leading the South Africa Champion in England.
The most shocking lapse was by the great Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar. AB de Villiers ignored Tendulkar, despite that he is widely considered as one of the greatest batsmen to play the game. Instead, Proteas Mahan chose Virat Kohli, his former IPL team fellow and close friends, and MS Dhoni.

He chose South Africa’s Graeme Smith and Australia’s Matthew Hayden as his opener and then handed over the important number three to the great Australian captain Ricky Ponting. In the middle order of de Villiers, modern-day legends Virat Kohli, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson, Dhoni batted at number 7 and donated gloves.

However, the former South African cricketer mentioned three options for number seven and wicketkeeping jobs, and he is the great Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist or former Protys icon Mark Boucher, in addition to former Indian captain Dhoni.
Surprisingly, there are no all-rounders in the ABD team, even legend Jacques Kallis has been ignored. Instead, de Villiers moved with a four-man bowling attack, which featured Australian speedster Mitchell Johnson and Pakistani bowler Mohammad Asif and Australia’s spin Vizard Shane Warne and Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan. Glenn McGrath was named the 12th person in the De Villiers team.
Choosing between Dhoni, Gilchrist and Boucher is not easy: AB de Villiers
AB de Villiers said in a viral video shared by Shefali Bagga on her Instagram handle: “Graeme Smith, Matthew Hayden, Ricky Ponting (AT) 3, Virat Kohli (AT) 4. Let’s go with more current players, such as Steve Smith No. 5, Cane Williamson Number 6, (MS) Dhony Number 7
Let’s go for the bowlers. Four bowlers, I would say, I will start with Mitchell Johnson at a slight speed. Mohammad Asif (AT) 9, Muttiah Muralitharan 10, Shane Warne Number 11. Glenn McGrath 12th Man. ,
In 2010, Mohammad Asif was banned for spot-fixing, raising several eyebrows. In addition, the former proteus batsman also ignored Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma. Not a single player from England or West Indies was in his all-time World XI.
