During the league’s first player auction for the 2007–08 season, Kings XI Punjab invested Rs 2.50 crore to secure a contract with the seamer, who was then an active player of the Indian national cricket team.
When did the ‘Slapgate’ incident occur?
He had a great first season with the franchise, as he took 19 wickets in 15 matches and as many innings at an economy rate of 8.63. Sreesanth played three consecutive seasons for the Kings, joined Kochi Tuskers Kerala (now defunct), followed by a stint with Rajasthan Royals.
While the fast bowler started his IPL career with Punjab, Harbhajan Singh was with Mumbai Indians for ten consecutive seasons before joining hands with Chennai Super Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders respectively.
The infamous ‘Slapgate’ incident took place during the 2008 Indian Premier League season, when Mumbai Indians were up against Kings XI Punjab for a match. Harbhajan Singh slapped his India and Kings XI Punjab teammate S Sreesanth on the field. After the incident the Kings Pacer had tears in his eyes. The Mumbai Indians spinner openly apologized for his actions on several occasions.
Years after the controversial incident, when everything seemed off, S Sreesanth made some shocking comments, pointing to an advertisement that featured the former spinner with boxing gloves.
The former fast bowler had claimed in a previous interview that Harbhajan had earned a huge amount by mentioning the Slapgate incident through advertisements. Out of nowhere, the controversial fast bowler challenged the Punjab-born player to a real boxing match.

However, Harbhajan Singh did not make any direct comment pointing towards his former teammate. But, he made a meaningful post through an Instagram post, where the great spinner said that empty utensils make the most noise.
“I’m in the Bare Knuckle Fight League right now. I’m challenging you, Bhajji. If you have that much trouble with the slap thing and me and you earn so much… then let me earn too. Come in the ring,” the fast bowler said during a segment with Lallantop.
Now in the latest claim, he has said that Harbhajan was not happy when Kings XI Punjab signed him by paying a good amount.
