Sanju Samson’s future with the Indian cricket team is in doubt as the opening batsman has been dropped from the T20 squad for the Zimbabwe tour. BCCI announces new T20 team without Sanju.

Due to the ongoing drought of runs with the bat, the team management dropped him from the playing eleven to make room for 15-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who made his debut for Team India in the ongoing T20I series in England.

Sanju Samson was the hero behind India’s 2026 T20 World Cup win

Player of the 2026 T20 World Cup Sanju Samson, whose explosive form helped Team India win the trophy, is now on the bench and will have to wait for an indefinite period before his next game with the Men in Blue.

While many cricket fans and cricket experts believe that the team management could be more gentle with Sanju, former India fast bowler S Sreesanth supports the team’s decision as Vaibhav Suryavanshi remains in the squad and is expected to play many matches for the national cricket team in this format. Sreesanth’s latest comments on Vaibhav Suryavanshi came ahead of India’s third T20 match against England.

Did BCCI take the right decision to drop Sanju Samson?

During an exclusive conversation with Ravish Bisht, he was asked, “Sanju has been removed, and now it seems that Suryavanshi has taken his place. How do you see this change?”

Welcoming the change, Sreesanth said that Sanju Samson needs to play better to save his place in the team. The former fast bowler said that being out could be good for both Sanju and the team.

“Look, I think Sanju needs to play better. When you don’t perform consistently even against Ireland, there is no dearth of talent in Indian cricket. We all know how Suryavanshi performed in this IPL. He deserved a chance. Better late than never. The way he faced Archer, it was amazing batting. Sanju has also done a lot,” said S Sreesanth.

He said, “He performed well in the World Cup, but it has been a long time since he performed. So, as I said about Sury Kumar Yadav, Sanju will perform well when given a chance. He also realizes that in Indian cricket, if he does not perform on certain occasions, there is a lot of competition. It is good for Sanju too, because he has realized that he needs to perform well consistently.”

S Sreesanth predicted the future of Vaibhav Suryavanshi

Further in the interview, Sreesanth mentioned that Vaibhav Suryavanshi is the future of Indian cricket because of his immense talent and incredible mindset. He is confident that Suryavanshi will win a gold medal for India in the upcoming Olympics.

“Vaibhav Suryavanshi is the future. I want him to be given more opportunities. He is brilliant. His mentality is also incredible. I am confident that when India participates in the Olympics, Suryavanshi will win a gold medal. Suryavanshi and other players like him should be given more opportunities,” the former fast bowler said when asked to predict the future of the budding opening batsman.
