Ryan attacks Mike Hessen for Mohammad Nawaz on Ryan Ten Dotk

Team India assistant coach Ryan Ten Dochet has replied to Pakistan’s head coach Mike Hessen’s claim that ‘Mohammad Nawaz is the best spinner in the world’ during the ongoing Asia Cup 2025. Ryan Ten Dochet also said that Hessen is entitled to his opinion and can rank his players wherever he wants.

India will face Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, September 14 in the Asia Cup Clash. Both teams started their tournament campaigns with winning respectively. In particular, India dominates Pakistan in T20I, conquering nine out of 13 encounters, one match in a tie ended.

Ahead of Pakistan’s Asia Cup 2025 opener against Oman, Mike Hessen called Mohammad Nawaz, who is ranked 30th in the world’s best spinner, World T20 Eye rankings.

Hessen said, “We have met Mohammad Nawaz, who is currently the best spin bowler in the world, and he has been ranked in this way in the last six months.”

Nawaz has been extraordinary in the last six months. He gave the match winning the match against Afghanistan in the Tri-Series finals. Nawaz took five wickets, including a hat-trick, to guide Pakistan for a 75-run win.

The left -arm spinner took 10 wickets in five innings. He won the Player of the Match and Player of the Series Awards. Nawaz also influenced Pakistan’s inaugural Asia Cup match against Oman, took one wicket as the team won 93 runs.

Ryan Ten Dochet said that each coach deserves his opinion. He also said that both India and Pakistan have strong spin options.

At the pre-match press conference, Ryan Ten Dochet said, “I think the spinners are going to be very important in this competition. If anything, I don’t think it has been held as much as we have estimated as we have estimated and it was definitely not that it was previously done in the year when we were here.”

“But in general the spin has become a very important part of T20 cricket, and both teams have a lot of spin on the proposal. Chakraborty has become the highest wicket-taker in T20Is since his return, claiming 32 wickets in only 13 innings.

Spinner was the main architect of victory in India’s Asia Cup 2025 opener against UAE, taking six wickets to destroy the opposition. Kuldeep Yadav recorded 4/7 figures in only 2.1 overs, while Varun Chakraborty (1/4) and Axar Patel (1/13) took each wicket.
