Ruturaj Gaikwad points to batting collapse after humiliating defeat vs RR in IPL 2026

It was a completely disappointing night for Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The batting unit did not work on the difficult surface of the Barsapara Stadium. The toss may have been a factor, but the team, with so much talent inside the line-up, could have done much better. Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad knows this very well. He did not blame anyone for the disappointing result; He just wanted to move on from that moment.

Like the captain of the winning team, Ruturaj Gaikwad also said that the toss played a big role in the outcome of the match. Since there was moisture on the wicket, the fast bowlers of Rajasthan Royals (RR) also got a chance to move the ball with bounce. Later, as the match progressed, the field started favoring the batsman.

CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad mentioned the condition of the pitch

The CSK captain mentioned that he was not disappointed, as the pitch was very difficult to bat on and maintain T20 standards. But admitted that they could have taken the innings further to put at least 150 runs on the board.

Ruturaj Gaikwad said, “I thought the conditions were really tough in the beginning, especially when facing Jofra and Berger. They bowled great lengths and even then, it was a bit tough for a medium pacer. You could see the spinners were getting some assistance as well.”

“Yes, we would have been better with the bat, we would have taken the game deeper, shown some batting, maybe taken the game to 150-160. But nowadays, you never know what a good score is, so you just have to keep going. So I think it was one of those days when the wicket was a bit difficult. So not to be disappointed at all”, he added.

Gaikwad sees some positivity in the results

Amidst several failures in the same match, the veteran batsman gave one positive note – the team is full of many young players. Gaikwad believes that as he gets more experience, the results will be in his favour.

Ruturaj Gaikwad said, “One good thing is that there are a lot of young players in the group. So, maybe it will be a nervous start for everyone, but it is good to be one game behind and start with a lot of mistakes. Hopefully it will be just an improvement after here.”

Captain hopes to see progress in near future

“I’m someone who’s not a firm believer in going all the way. But with dominant players, you never really know what’s a good score or what’s a par score. So when you’re defending 150, 160, or 170 you often don’t see the game going down the line until the 20th over. So I think it’s just about supporting yourself, supporting your game for the batsmen.”

“If you have it in your zone, make sure you go for it. Today it didn’t work, but we can be better with the bat. You just have to be positive, especially when you are batting first. If the conditions are good, you never know, the same batting line-up can put up a good score,” concluded Ruturaj Gaikwad.
