Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will not play in Afghanistan ODI

Kohli is expected to miss the three-match ODI series due to a hamstring injury sustained during IPL 2026, reports Times of India. The former Indian captain is still recovering, and there is no clarity on when he will be ready to return to action.

On the other hand, Rohit’s availability is also in doubt as he is still recovering from a hamstring problem. The senior opening batsman was included in the squad only after getting fitness clearance, but he still has to complete the necessary assessment process.

This situation has forced the Indian selectors to think about bringing in new faces in the ODI setup. It is being said that Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the strongest options to replace that opener. There are other names in the mix too. If both Kohli and Rohit are unable to play in Afghanistan ODI, then Ruturaj Gaikwad, Devdutt Padikkal and Tilak Verma can be considered.
