In response, South Africa looked under complete control during the complete chase. After the opening loss of the opener Matthew BretzkeVan Der Dusen and Harman put up an important partnership together. Van Der Dusen scored 52 runs in 41 delivery, while Harman adopted an aggressive route.
Harman played with intentions and flare, not out of 36 balls, which included seven fours and six. His attacker approach ensured that South Africa maintained a healthy run rate and never allowed to climb at the required rate. Taking a 1–0 lead in the series, Proteus chased in only 17.2 overs.
