Rovman Powell becomes West Indies’ top T20I run-scorer

Rovman Powell has become the highest run-scorer for West Indies in T-20. During his second T20I match against Sri Lanka in the ongoing bilateral series at Sabina Park, the middle-order batsman claimed the record by dismissing Nicholas Pooran.

In the match against Sri Lanka, Rovman Powell topped the ladder with 43 runs from 26 balls. Powell left behind legends like Chris Gayle and Kieron Pollard to top the list of leading run scorers in the format for the national cricket team.

Rovman Powell is the current number 1 T20I batsman for West Indies

Rovman Powell now has 2,314 runs in 119 matches. The batsman claimed the record when his form was being scrutinised.

Powell made the record, but West Indies lost the match

If the team is successful in winning against the visitors then it could be the most memorable night of his career. However, Rovman Powell mentioned that he feels good to claim this milestone. He never thought that he could represent the West Indies national cricket team, and that too for almost a decade. The batsman has vowed to score more runs for his country to improve in T20Is.

“It feels good, you know, this is a guy who dreams of playing for the West Indies. I never knew I’d be playing for the West Indies for the last ten years, so it’s definitely something I’ve dreamed about. So to be able to wrestle the most runs is a great feeling at the moment,” Rovman Powell said after the match.

Talking about the match, Sri Lanka scored 194 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. West Indies had enough firepower to overcome the target, but it was not their night as they could only score 157 runs in 18.1 overs before losing all their batsmen.

Sri Lanka performed well with both bat and ball

Kamil Mishara and Dasun Shanaka batted brilliantly for Sri Lanka and scored more than fifty runs for the team. With the ball, fast bowler Shamar Joseph took 3 wickets and Matthew Forde took two wickets.

Like the batsmen, the Lankan bowlers also tried their best to save runs. Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasarnaga both took three wickets each for their team.
