Rohit Sharma warns Jasprit Bumrah of ‘Finn Allen’ ahead of T20 World Cup final

Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma is quite surprised after watching Finn Allen’s innings against South Africa in the first semi-final. He said that sometimes players have to take risks and be brave, and Allen has been brave, thus sending an early warning to the Men in Blue.

India have made it to the T20 World Cup final, but every Indian fan would agree that India’s bowling performance has been comparatively poor. Had it not been for two special innings by Sanju Samson, India’s campaign would have ended long ago.

While New Zealand’s strong batting department troubled South Africa, India were let down by their bowlers, who managed to help India win the semi-final by just 7 runs after their batsmen put up 254 runs on the board.

Finn Allen was really very brave – Rohit Sharma

New Zealand removed one of their most famous batsmen, Devon Conway, and favored Tim Seifert to open with Finn Allen. He has been in great form since his return, as he opened with 80 in the final game of the series against India just ahead of the T20 World Cup.

He then became the highest scorer for New Zealand and took them to the final by scoring a blistering century against the Proteas with a strike rate of over 300. Hence the former Indian captain has marked him as a very brave cricketer.

Rohit Sharma said, “Finn Allen is known for playing like this. He has great skills and he used them to his best advantage. I thought the way he played, he was very clear in his mind; he took advantage of his chances.”

“And yes, sometimes, you know, in this format you have to be brave, and Finn Allen was really brave to take those chances. It was really beneficial for him,” the former Indian captain praised the New Zealand opener’s remarkable abilities.

Allen ignored ‘Jasprit Bumrah’s threat’ before T20 World Cup match

Ahead of the big clash, New Zealand opener Finn Allen was asked about his strategy to deal with the threat of Jasprit Bumrah in the T20 World Cup final. However, surprising everyone, he said that he believes more in playing the ball than bowling.

He showed how the New Zealand dressing room never over-prepares but focuses on the simple things rather than the biggest challenges. The fast bowler may not have been at his best in this World Cup, but he is still the epitome of India’s attack, and Allen is still not upset.

The subtle confidence may also have come from the historic innings he played against India in his last game before the start of the T20 World Cup, where Bumrah finished with 0/58 in his career-worst four overs.

Jasprit Bumrah or Varun Chakravarthy: Who will India need to retain World Cup glory?

Indian batsmen are continuously winning matches in this World Cup; However, bowlers have a very important role to play on big occasions. While Jasprit Bumrah has been economical and a wicket-taker, he is not the same version of him that got him the pots last time in 2024; On the other hand, Varun Chakraborty, no. 1 T20I bowler currently, has been a complete mess.

These two players will play a big role in making India victorious in the final and retaining the title of defending champion. While Jasprit will be crucial against New Zealand’s death hitters, Chakraborty will have to pick big fishes Allen and Seifert, who are not too afraid of fast bowling.
