Recently in a development, India’s Sri Lankan white ball tour, which was expected to be in August, has been allegedly closed. Sri Lanka Cricket had expected to use a difference in the schedule of both teams, but there would not be a series, delaying the return of senior players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

The BCCI and BCB recently agreed to postpone the White-Ball Tour in India from 2025 to September 2026. The decision was taken after security concerns and regional unrest, allegedly influenced by Bangladesh’s anti -India stance. The series was prescribed to include three Odis and three T20I.

According to Vipul Kashyap from ANI, Sri Lanka Cricket has denied reports of a white ball series against India, which is expected to be in the last week of August.

The potential India-Sri Lanka series received traction after BCCI postponed Bangladesh’s own white ball attack, which is originally going to start from August 17. India recently concluded the five-match Test series against England, which ended in a 2–2 draw.

With the cancellation of both tourism, fans have been disappointed, as it has further delayed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the international returns of senior players, which are now involved in ODI after only testing and retirement from T20I.

With no bilateral chain set before the Asia Cup, India’s next assignment will be the 2025 version of the tournament, which is scheduled to begin on 9 September in the T20 format in the UAE.

Fans will have to wait by October 2025 to see Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in action. Both players remain active in ODIs only. He last played an international match in the final of the Champions Trophy on 9 March 2025.

Kohli and Rohit have been scheduled for India’s three-match ODI series in Australia for 19 October (Perth), 23 October (Adelaide) and 25 October (Sydney). This will be followed by the five match T20I series starting from October 29.

In their final tour to Australia, the hosts won the ODI series 2–1, while India claimed T20I by the same margin.

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have stellar ODI records

With his retirement from Test and T20I, Rohit and Virat will now join only ODIs. Both have done extraordinary career in the format and played an important role in the success of India’s white ball.

Virat Kohli is the third largest run-scorer in ODI history, including 518181 and 74 fifties, including 14,181 runs in an average of 57.88, on an average of 57.88. On the other hand, Rohit Sharma has scored 11,168 runs in 273 Odis, with an average of 32 hundreds and 58 fifties in 48.76.

In the 2023 World Cup, Kohli and Rohit emerged as the top two-run-scorer of the tournament, scoring 765 and 597 runs respectively. However, there is uncertainty about their roles in 2027 World Cup plans, as the team can transition to the future to prepare young talents for the future.
