Indian great Rohit Sharma, who is the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 ambassador, reminisced about some of the most iconic moments from the encounters against Pakistan in the last edition of the T20 World Cup. He praised Virat Kohli’s iconic innings during the 2022 World Cup clash against Pakistan.
Till 2026, Rohit Sharma has featured in every single game for India in the ICC T20 World Cup. From being a young player in 2007 to delivering famous wins against rivals in the 2022 and 2024 World Cups, Rohit Sharma has enjoyed his performances in the prestigious rivalries.
“My favorite T20 World Cup match against Pakistan…” – Rohit Sharma reveals his favorite match against Pakistan
Recalling the most iconic clash against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup, Rohit described his first ICC T20 World Cup final against Pakistan as the most iconic game.
“My favorite T20 World Cup match against Pakistan was definitely the final that we played, no one can beat that. We won the World Cup,” Rohit said.
India had also previously faced Pakistan in the league stage of the competition, where the battle between the two teams ended in a tie and India won the game in the first bowl-out of the tournament.
“In the same year (2007), we also played a league game against Pakistan, which was the only match in the tournament that was decided by a bowl-out, and we came out on top there too. So in 2007, both the World Cup games were special,” Rohit Sharma recalled.
“Kohli played a brilliant inning there,” Rohit Sharma praises Virat Kohli’s iconic 2022 T20 World Cup innings
After mentioning his favorite encounter, he claimed that the India-Pakistan clash in the 2022 T20 World Cup at the MCG is his most memorable innings. He recalled the iconic innings played by Virat Kohli while he himself watched from the sidelines.
“Yes, I was in the dressing room. Then I came out, but got nervous and went back in. When the game is so tight, especially when you are out on the field and know you can’t do anything, it just takes the sense of control away from you, and I feel helpless. When you can’t do anything about it, you really feel helpless watching the game,” Rohit said.
Chasing 160, India struggled to the point where they were reduced to 31/4 and then finished it brilliantly. He further said that it has to be one of the greatest cricket games ever played, especially because it was a World Cup game.
“Kohli played a brilliant innings there. It was very special to see again because we were in no position to win that game, especially after our start,” Rohit recalled.
“I don’t remember a single game in which I was not nervous” – Rohit Sharma
Now retired from T20I cricket, the former Indian opener has played 160 T20Is for India, and despite this, he admits that there was not a single game where he did not feel the pressure of winning the game, which is what drives his passion for the game.
“I have played 160 T20 Internationals for India. I don’t remember a single game where I wasn’t nervous. I was nervous for every game. That feeling gives me nervousness, and I don’t think that feeling will ever go away as long as I’m holding this bat, going out there and getting on the field.”
“It stays with me. And that feeling means you still want to go out there, play the game and give your best,” Rohit said.
