Rohit Sharma secretly spies on Jay Shah’s phone during IND vs ENG semi-final

Former Indian captain Rohit Sharma was present at the stadium to cheer for the Suryakumar Yadav-led team during the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2026 against England. During the match, a viral video captured Rohit Sharma doing something strange while sitting right next to ICC chief Jay Shah.

Team India defeated England by seven runs in a thrilling match at the prestigious Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, March 5. Fans were treated to an absolute run-fest, where 499 runs were scored between the teams. The Men in Blue defended 253 runs to advance to the final of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma caught peeping into Jay Shah’s phone during IND vs ENG semi-final

While the action on the field was intense, a hilarious moment in the VIP stand caught everyone’s attention. Rohit Sharma can be seen in the Wankhede stand during the match.

The right-handed batsman was sitting right next to Jay Shah, who was using his mobile phone during the match. Suddenly, Rohit bent down and peered into Jai Shah’s phone screen to see what exactly he was looking at.

This funny moment of the former captain silently looking at the ICC Chairman’s phone became a massive topic of discussion on social media, entertaining fans who were already thrilled to see him praising the Indian batsmen.

Sanju Samson and Jasprit Bumrah shine for India

On the field, Indian batsmen performed brilliantly on a batting-friendly pitch. Sanju Samson continued his excellent form and created a brilliant platform by playing a match-deciding inning of 89 runs in 42 balls. Ishan Kishan (39), Shivam Dubey (43), Hardik Pandya (27) and Tilak Verma (21) made important contributions.

In reply, England’s Jacob Bethell threatened to bow out of the match by scoring a sensational 105 off 48 balls. However, Jasprit Bumrah proved to be the ultimate game-changer in the death overs.

Bumrah maintained his composure even in moments of extreme pressure and gave away just 15 runs in his last two overs to help India register a close seven-run win. Shivam Dubey gave 22 runs in the last over, but that was not enough for England.

India one step away from T20 World Cup glory

After winning this high-voltage semi-final, India will face New Zealand in the final of the 2026 T20 World Cup. This grand final will be held on Sunday 8 March at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

If India defeats the Kiwi team, then it will become the only team in the world to win the T20 World Cup three times. Notably, no team in T20 World Cup history has won the title consecutively.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma leads India to T20 World Cup glory in 2024. He retired from T20Is after the final and also retired from Test cricket last May. The former captain, who plays only ODIs for India, will be seen playing for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
