Rohit Sharma and Prasidh Krishna together achieved a rare feat during the third ODI against Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. The experienced opener took three catches at first slip, while Prasidh Krishna took all three wickets in a sensational opening spell.
After the visiting team decided to bat first, the Indian fast bowler devastated Afghanistan’s top order. Interestingly, all three dismissals came via the same Rohit Sharma-Prasidh Krishna combination, making it a unique hat-trick of catches and wickets in the opening eight overs of the contest.
Rohit Sharma, Prasidh Krishna achieved unique hat-tricks in IND vs AFG
Prasidh Krishna made an immediate impact by dismissing Rahmanullah Gurbaz on the very first ball of his spell. The right-arm pacer got enough movement outside the off stump as Gurbaz pushed the ball forward, but the ball went straight to Rohit Sharma at first slip.
Both of them created a ruckus again in the sixth over. Prasidh bowled a testing back-of-a-length delivery to Rahmat Shah, who attempted to steer the ball down the leg side. However, the Afghanistan batsman could only get the edge and Rohit completed another sharp catch.
The unique hat-trick was completed in the eighth over when Ibrahim Zadran became Prasidh’s third victim. Trying to drive upwards, Ibrahim edged the ball to first slip, where Rohit safely took his third catch of the innings.
As a result, Rohit and Prasidh scripted a rare triple combination, with all three Afghanistan wickets falling in similar fashion via catches at first slip.

Till the time of writing the news, the Afghanistan team, which came to bat first in Chennai, was struggling scoring 29-3 runs in 8 overs. Prasidh Krishna was the standout performer with figures of 3/5 from four overs, while Rohit Sharma’s excellent work in the slips helped India gain complete control during the early stages of the innings.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz (5), Rahmat Shah (5) and Ibrahim Zadran (11) all fell to the Prasidh-Rohit combination as Afghanistan’s top order collapsed under pressure. After India’s dream start, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Darwish Rasooli were tasked with rebuilding the innings.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul is not playing IND vs AFG 3rd ODI today.
