Rohit Sharma was one of the standout performers for Mumbai Indians in this season of the competition. The former MI captain also topped the Orange Cap list on one occasion after the second game against Delhi Capitals.

Rohit Sharma ruled out of next two matches for MI in IPL 2026
Former MI captain Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury during the Tata IPL 2026 game against Royal Challengers Bangalore and retired hurt.
He underwent scans and his availability for Mumbai Indians’ upcoming matches is very uncertain. Now, as per the latest reports from NDTV, he is likely to miss the next two matches for Mumbai Indians.
Mumbai Indians’ next two matches in Tata IPL 2026 are scheduled to be played against Punjab Kings and Gujarat Titans on April 16 and 20 respectively. Both these matches will also be part of rivalry week.
MI’s troubles have increased after Rohit Sharma’s sudden injury.
Mumbai Indians started IPL 2026 with a win in the first game of the season. After the win, Mumbai Indians are struggling with their recent form and have lost three consecutive games, including matches against DC, RR and RCB.
Mumbai is struggling with the poor form of its players, especially the players with the ball. None of their bowlers have played such good innings, as they have conceded runs at an economy rate of more than 12 on most occasions.
In the batting department, there has been a lack of consistency for the MI batsmen, and now, with Rohit Sharma not being a part of the franchise for the next two matches, concerns will increase as a huge void will be created around the starting spot.
Who will replace Rohit Sharma in MI camp?
In the absence of Rohit Sharma, MI will need an opener in the batting order. Mumbai are probably considering Ryan Rickelton to open along with the other South African superstar Quinton de Kock, who is also waiting for his chance in this edition of the IPL.
But in such circumstances, MI will not have room to choose any other foreign cricketer in the bowling department. He will be supported by Sherfane Rutherford as well as another overseas cricketer like Will Jacks or Mitchell Santner.
However, if Jacques makes a comeback on time, he can be used as a replacement opener in the team against Punjab Kings. However, MI coach Kieron Pollard hinted at his return ahead of their upcoming game, which will be a positive for the team.
