Indian captain Rohit Sharma has made a big announcement assuring Indian fans of their participation in the ICC World Cup 2027. He claimed that the 50-over World Cup was the pinnacle of cricket, which he aspired to win throughout his career after growing up with the childhood dream.
Indian legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from the remaining two formats of international cricket and then made a comeback in the 50-over format. Virat Kohli’s form has been decisive, and he is likely to be the perfect contender for Team India in the next Cricket World Cup in 2027.
The World Cup is to be hosted by South Africa, a country where the fast bounce and unpredictability of the tracks will play a major role, and the Indian giants will be required to do most of the scoring. Also, his vast experience will be needed to cope with South African conditions.
Rohit Sharma has secured a place for himself in Team India in 2027
Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from the Test format and then returned to play an ODI series for India in the overseas tour of Australia. For India, this was their first bilateral in the 50-over format after the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy campaign.
Rohit dominated the series against Australia with commendable centuries and half-centuries and then returned to India to play against South Africa in the three-match ODI series, where he also scored several half-centuries. However, Rohit lacked form during the outing against New Zealand.
Rohit’s place in the 2027 World Cup is yet to get the green signal from the coaches and the BCCI chief selector, as they clearly mentioned that the experienced batsman will also have to prove himself to get into the team. Rohit has several other series lined up in 2026, including the England series in June.
Amidst all this, Rohit has assured Indian fans that he will play the 2027 World Cup despite being 40 years old. He has regained his lost fitness and will be key to India’s campaign in the World Cup.
“I really want that trophy,” Rohit Sharma said about the 2027 CWC.
Rohit Sharma claimed that he has become a cricketer who dreams of winning the World Cup with the Indian team. He claimed that since there were no other tournaments like T20 World Cup, IPL or WTC in those days, the ODI World Cup used to be the pinnacle of the game.
“I would definitely like to go out there and win the World Cup for my country; it’s something I’ve always looked forward to, I’ve grown up watching this 50-over World Cup,” Rohit said.
He said, “There was no T20 World Cup, no IPL, no WTC at that time and that was the peak of cricket which happens every four years so there was frustration; that one trophy had so much importance – I really want that trophy so I will try to work hard and do everything in my power and ability to get it.”
