Rohit Sharma crushes retirement talks with brilliant Lord’s century
Ahead of the third and final ODI at Lord’s on July 19, several reports claimed that head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar had informed Rohit that he was not part of India’s plans for the 2027 ODI World Cup. It was also being said that the Lord’s ODI could be the 39-year-old’s last match for India, having generated a lot of buzz ahead of the series decider.
However, Rohit let his bat do the talking. The experienced opener scored a brilliant 138 runs. It was his 34th ODI century that took India’s total to 387/3 and reminded everyone why he is still one of the best batsmen for the team. Earlier, Harry Brook lauded Ben Duckett’s match-winning century against India.
But Rohit’s century could not win the match for India. England successfully chased the target and won the third ODI to take the three-match series 2-1. After the match, Indian captain Shubman Gill dismissed the rumors of Rohit Sharma’s retirement.
When Gill was asked about the discussion in the press conference, he revealed that there was no discussion on Rohit’s future inside the dressing room.
