Indian batsman Rohit Sharma has not only made a strong comeback in international cricket but also ended his long wait to regain the No. 1 spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings. Sharma, with his unbeaten form in Australia, overtook Shubman Gill to claim the top spot.
India may not have got the expected results on the Australia tour, but for Rohit Sharma this was the biggest positive in recent times. The Indian opener, determined to regain fitness ahead of the tour, lost 11 kg and it paid off as he dominated with 200+ runs and an average of 101.
Rohit Sharma has become the number 1 ODI batsman after the Australia tour.
The Indian opener was sacked from the captaincy before the tour, which might have forced him to further strengthen his resolve. After being out for just 8 runs in the first match in Perth, Rohit launched a strong attack on the Australian bowlers. He top-scored for India with an innings of 73 in Adelaide and backed it up with a brilliant century in Sydney.
On the back of his stellar performance in Australia, Rohit climbed two places to the top spot in the ICC ODI batting rankings. He has 781 rating points, 17 more than second-placed Ibrahim Zadran. After poor performance on this Australia tour, Shubman Gill has slipped two places to number 3.
