Immediately after the final ended, players, family members and officials entered the field to celebrate the big win. Rohit Sharma was seen walking to the boundary line with ICC Chairman Jay Shah, who was the BCCI Secretary when India won the 2024 edition under the Hitman.
As the fans chanted for him, Rohit Sharma held Shah’s hand and raised him towards the crowd in a mocking manner, making it seem as if he was calling the ICC chairman the “real screenwriter”. Rohit’s funny gesture surprised Shah for a moment, before both of them started laughing out loud.
For a long time, jokes about the “scriptwriter” behind big cricket results have been popular online, often linked to Jay Shah. Rohit’s playful action seemed to reference the ongoing joke, which turned the post-match celebration into another memorable moment.

Meanwhile, the India national cricket team performed brilliantly to win the T20 World Cup 2026 by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs. Playing in front of a packed crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium, India dominated the final to clinch their third T20 World Cup title.

The win created history as India became the first team to win the domestic T20 World Cup and the first team to successfully defend the trophy. India made a blazing start in the final with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma making a strong start of 98 runs in just 7.1 overs.
Samson played a brilliant inning of 89 runs off 46 balls, but missed his century by only 11 runs. Later, Ishan Kishan played a quickfire knock of 54 runs in just 25 balls and then Shivam Dubey added 26 runs in just eight balls to help the Men in Blue reach a mammoth total of 255 runs.
Chasing a huge target, New Zealand were never in the game. Leading the bowling attack, Jasprit Bumrah took four wickets for just 15 runs, while Axar Patel took three important wickets. Hardik Pandya, Varun Chakravarthy and Abhishek Sharma took one wicket each as New Zealand were bowled out for 159 in 19 overs at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, March 8.
