Rohit Sharma became the fifth batsman to score 1000 ODI runs against Australia.

Overall, Rohit Sharma became the fifth batsman to score 1000 ODI runs against Australia at home. The current record is in the name of West Indies great Viv Richards who scored 1905 runs in 40 matches. Richards is followed by his compatriot Desmond Haynes and Sri Lankan pair Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene.

Rohit Sharma’s top scores for India:

Rohit Sharma was the top scorer for Team India in the second ODI. The former Indian captain scored 73 runs in 97 balls with the help of 7 fours and 2 sixes. While Rohit usually likes to play aggressive cricket, he decided to be cautious with aggression after losing two wickets inside 7 overs in the second ODI.

At one time India’s score was 17/2 but Rohit and Shreyas Iyer held the team together by making a partnership of 118 runs for the third wicket. Mitchell Starc broke this partnership by dismissing Rohit in the 30th over. Rohit’s dismissal once again derailed India’s innings and they kept losing wickets at regular intervals.

Iyer was out in the 33rd over after scoring 61 runs while KL Rahul (11), Washington Sundar (12) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (8) failed to impress. Axar Patel played a crucial inning of 44 runs before being dismissed by Adam Zampa in the 45th over.

Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh shine

Harshit Rana (24*) and Arshdeep Singh (13) then made useful contributions, helping India post a competitive score of 264/9 in the allotted 50 overs. For Australia, Zampa performed brilliantly with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 60 runs.

India will be hoping that the score is more than enough as they look for a win to level the series. To keep the three-match series intact, the tourists will have to win the match at any cost.
