Mohammad Saleem Safi took his first ODI wicket with the dismissal of Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Afghanistan suffered an early blow when Mohammad Salim Safi dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal. The left-handed opening batsman attempted a cut shot against a short and wide delivery but failed to keep it away from the fielder.
Nangeyalia Kharote, deployed at backward point, reacted immediately and completed the catch in his second attempt after a brief bounce of the ball inside the 30-yard circle. Salim Safi took his first ODI wicket for Afghanistan and provided early success for the visiting team.
However, Afghanistan could not build on the early success as India’s batsmen quickly gained control of the innings. At the end of the powerplay, India reached 80/1, while Afghanistan struggled to maintain a consistent line and length.
While Salim Safi dismissed Jaiswal in the second over, the visitors found little success after that as India’s batting pair stitched an unbeaten 71-run stand in 48 balls, giving the hosts a stranglehold.
