Rohit Sharma is proving once again that age cannot slow down true class. The 38-year-old superstar has taken the ongoing IPL 2026 by storm and has now claimed the Orange Cap for Mumbai Indians with his consistent and effective batting performances.
The former Mumbai Indians captain had announced his arrival by scoring a blistering 78 runs off 38 balls at an impressive strike rate of over 205, helping his team register their first win of the season after 14 years. MI defeated KKR by six wickets in that match at the Wankhede Stadium.
Rohit continued his fine form in MI’s second IPL 2026 encounter against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 3. However, the experienced opener could not carry on his sensational innings but provided a strong start to the five-time champions on the difficult surface.
Rohit Sharma becomes the highest run-scorer in IPL 2026 by surpassing Cooper Connolly
The right-handed batsman played a brilliant inning of 35 runs with the help of five fours and one six in 26 balls against Delhi Capitals. With this innings for Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Rohit overtook Punjab Kings’ Cooper Connolly (108 runs in two matches) to become the leading run-scorer.

The former Indian captain has 113 runs in two matches so far in the ongoing IPL 2026, snatching the Orange Cap from young gun Connolly at the age of 38. Interestingly, despite winning five IPL titles as captain, Rohit has never won the Orange Cap.
It will be interesting to see whether the Hitman breaks this shad in the ongoing IPL 2026, and ends his first season as the leading run-scorer in the world’s biggest T20 league. However, this could be possible if Rohit continues his excellent form.
Rohit Sharma vs Axar Patel rivalry in IPL
Talking about his dismissal in Delhi, DC captain Akshar Patel bowled a slightly slow and wide ball to Rohit Sharma. He tried to hit it hard over the cover area with an inside-out shot. But he missed it and the ball went straight to Nitish Rana, who was positioned at cover.
Nitish didn’t have to move much and took a clean shot, almost as if he had caught it from the air to send the hitman back to the pavilion. Axar has been a big challenge for Rohit in the IPL for the last few years.

The right-handed batsman has scored only 67 runs in 77 balls against the left-arm spinner in 11 innings, at an average of 16.75 per innings and striking at 87.01, which is well below his standard. Interestingly, Akshar has dismissed Rohit 4 times in the league.
Rohit Sharma achieved another special achievement by defeating MS Dhoni
Yet, Rohit Sharma has added another major feat to his illustrious IPL career. The Mumbai Indians superstar became one of the top batsmen to hit the most number of sixes against a single opponent in IPL history.
With 51 sixes against Delhi Capitals, Rohit overtook MS Dhoni to become the third player to hit the most sixes against a single team. This incredible milestone puts him behind only Chris Gayle, who still holds the top two spots for his brutal hitting against PBKS (61) and KKR (54).
Rohit is now above icons like Dhoni (50 sixes against RCB) and Virat Kohli (48 sixes against CSK). He is back in this chart with 47 sixes against KKR.
