He turned 70 on July 19, 2025, and was uncertain on his continuity in the role due to the age limit specified in the BCCI Constitution.

In particular, any office-guardian who turns 70 is disqualified from organizing the post, according to the constitution approved by the Supreme Court.

It was estimated that BCCI Vice President Rajiv Shukla would soon be promoted and took over as President, at least on an interim basis.

The BCCI Annual General Meeting (AGM) is scheduled for September, and last month it was reported that Roger Binny may continue in a caretaker capacity until the meeting is held.

National Sports Bill can help Roger Binny to continue as BCCI President till 75

According to the latest PTI report, in the National Sports Bill passed in Parliament on Tuesday, Roger Binny may help continue as BCCI President.

However, this will only happen when members of the BCCI state unit give it green lights. In particular, 75 is set as a cut-off age for the office bearrs of the National Sports Federation, whose global bodies do not have a particularly mentioned age section like ICC.

In addition, the BCCI legal team is undergoing the National Sports Bill, even if it will not have any major impact on the board as it does not take the grant from the government.

A source of the board said on the terms of anonymity to PTI, “Roger will continue till the board meeting in September. Will they get a fresh word, depending on what BCCI -linked members and other powerful people decide.”

The source said, “The National Sports Bill has just been passed, therefore, we have some time to study it and engage in proper discussion before any decision.”

He said, “There are other points to discuss the bill to ensure, and all stakeholders, including senior players and coaching staff, will be consulted, especially because cricket will be played in the 2028 Olympics,” he said.
