Rishabh Pant’s innings as opener was cut short due to an unfortunate runout. The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain had to go back to the dugout after scoring only 7 runs out of 9. It was Delhi Capitals (DC) fast bowler Mukesh Kumar who ran out Rishabh Pant.
When DC were on 19 runs on the last ball of the third over, opener Mitchell Marsh was looking in good form, but Pant was out. Delhi lost its first batsman, and it proved costly. To utilize the power as much as possible, the DC team management encouraged Pant to open the innings. Which certainly didn’t help at the Ekana Stadium. Pant looked in disbelief as he had to quickly turn back.
Rishabh Pant was unfortunately run out
Marsh punches the ball down the ground to rotate the strike. Fast bowler Mukesh Kumar, who was on follow-through, extended his right hand to stop the ball. The ball deflected from the bowler’s fingers and hit the stumps. Till Pant was out of his crease. As per rules it was run out.

IPL 2026: Platform for Rishabh Pant to prove himself
The ongoing Indian Premier League 2026 is considered extremely important for the keeper-batsman as he has hardly played in this format since the conclusion of IPL 2025. In the last group stage match of the 2025 season, the southpaw scored a century against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), after that, he has featured for Team India in various formats but has mostly remained out of the Twenty20 format on the big stages.
Later, several injury concerns also put a brake on his progress. Ahead of the 2026 T20 World Cup, he was scheduled to play in the ODI series against New Zealand, but he got injured during a training session before the first match of the series. Rishabh Pant needed to spend a lot of time outside competitive matches to regain his match fitness through a strict rehabilitation routine.
As he makes a comeback in the format with Lucknow Super Giants, fans can expect to see some explosive innings from him in the ongoing IPL season. Pant started his innings against Delhi Capitals with a brilliant stroke against Mukesh Kumar in the opening over of the match. Guided a full-length delivery to the boundary rope with a light push. Pant achieved the boundary in a classical manner. But soon, after retaining a few dot balls, he tried to do fancy things. In the same over, Rishabh tried to go over the keeper’s head, but failed. The ball went inches away from the stumps; Pant survived for some time. His luck soon ran out at the end of the third over as the deflected ball hit the stumps. Apart from Mitchell Marsh, other top order batsmen of LSG could not do anything special in the power play.
