Left-handed maestro batsman Rishabh Pant was picked ahead of the IPL 2025 season at a whopping price of Rs 27 crore. After being bought at a huge price, he was also given the captaincy of Lucknow Super Giants team.
Since Rishabh Pant joined the team, Lucknow Super Giants are struggling to qualify for the playoffs. Under his captaincy, they have mostly failed to qualify after finishing bottom of the points table.
Rishabh Pant’s captaincy era ends for LSG
Pant started his captaincy with Lucknow Super Giants in 2025. He has struggled not only to maintain his batting form but also to maintain his run-scoring form.
Pant has scored 500+ runs in more than 25 innings in the last two seasons and his average in the season has been below 25, while his scoring rate has also gone down. Pant has asked to be relieved of captaincy duties after his team finished last in 2026.
LSG Director of Cricket Tom Moody said that Rishabh Pant had approached the management to hand over the captaincy and the management has respectfully accepted his request offer.
Moody said, “These decisions are never easy. We are grateful for what Rishabh has brought to this dressing room as captain. Our focus now is on collectively-rebuilding and restructuring to reach the best standards.”
