In match number 38, it was an exciting match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Like the last over, the match once again went into the last over. The match went into Super Over as KKR chased down two runs in the Super Over and easily won the game.
On a slow and dry wicket, Rishabh Pant won the toss and decided to bowl first. The home team made one change with George Linde replacing M Siddharth. KKR played the same team that it had fielded in the match against Rajasthan Royals.
Mohsin Khan’s plan went in vain
After being invited to bat first, KKR got off to a very poor start as they lost Tim Seifert for duck and Ajinkya Rahane, who scored just 10 runs. Mohsin Khan dominated the KKR batsmen and took 5 wickets in the match, bowling sensationally and taking 5 wickets for 23 runs in his four overs. Cameron Green scored 34 runs in the match.
However, it was Rinku Singh who was the game changer in the match as he played a brilliant inning of 83 runs and hit four consecutive sixes off the last over of Digvesh Rathi as KKR scored 26 runs in the last over and KKR scored 155/8 in 20 overs.
Rishabh Pant failed to chase the target
Coming into the chase, LSG opener Mitchell Marsh was back early, and then Aiden Markram and Rishabh Pant formed a partnership in the middle, but Cam Green dismissed Markram, and then Sunil Narine picked out the dangerous Pant at the score of 42.
Nicholas Pooran walked back out after being dismissed for another poor score of nine runs. Wickets continued to fall, with KKR vs LSG match hero Mukul Choudhary getting bowled for one run. Ayush Badoni returned after scoring 24 runs, Super Giants’ dreams were shattered as LSG needed 17 runs from the last over.
But Karthik Tyagi gave away 16 runs in the final over as he hit two no-balls and a six off the final ball of Mohammed Shami. The match went to super over.
Narine used all his experience and bowled brilliantly, taking the wicket of Puran on the first ball and then dismissing Markram on the third ball, in which Rovman Powell and Rinku Singh together took a brilliant catch. Two runs are needed in the super over. Rinku hit four fours on the first ball.
We definitely need a break- Rishabh Pant
Rishabh Pant was all smiles after the match and was not happy with how they failed to chase the target of 156 runs. He said that the team needs a break to refresh its players.
Rishabh Pant said, “We definitely need a break. We are going to freshen up. It is always going to be a pressure game. We need each individual to take accountability. It should be about the whole team.”
“We discussed (Pooran). The name that came up was Nicky P. He is not in the best form of his life but you have to trust your player. There may not be enough positives right now but after the break, there will definitely be (enough positives).”
