Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler made the run chase look like a walk in the park. Without doing anything flashy, both these batsmen keep the run chase simple by following a very simple method: see the ball and hit the ball.
At the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) had a bad day with their batsmen. The home team, who came to bat first, could score only 164 runs for 8 wickets. Apart from one of their openers, Aiden Markram, who scored 30 runs, there was no other batsman in the team who scored at least 20 runs against the Gujarat Titans bowling line-up today.
LSG’s rising star also flopped against Gujarat Titans
Mukul Chaudhary, who single-handedly ensured victory against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, could not do anything special.
Prasidh Krishna was the best bowler for Gujarat Titans, taking 4 wickets in 4 overs at an economy rate of 7.00. Mohammed Siraj also performed well and took one wicket in four overs at an economy rate of 4.75.
After the initial wicket of Sai Sudarshan, LSG players got very little chance to celebrate in the second innings of the match, because slowly but surely Jos Buttler took over the rhythm of the match. Gill returned after scoring 56 runs off 40 balls, which included one six and six fours.

While the captain batted cautiously, Buttler was a bit more aggressive. The England international scored 60 runs in 37 balls with eleven fours and a strike rate of 162.17. This was Butler’s 100th half-century in T20. This came in just 29 balls. According to Cricbuzz, 80% of Buttler’s runs have been scored on the off side, which is the joint fifth highest score of 50+ scores in the IPL since 1982.
After the departure of Gill and Buttler, Washington Sundar and Rahul Tewatia sealed the game for Gujarat Titans. GT needed only 18.4 overs to win the match against Lucknow Super Giants by 7 wickets.
We could not take adequate advantage of the opportunities: Rishabh Pant, LSG captain
Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant said after the match, “Look, there were definitely not enough runs. There is nothing like that. The fact that they bowled well. I think a score like 170 to 180 is a really good score on a wicket like this. But, you know, the wickets kept falling and they put a lot of pressure on us to take wickets.”
“Look, obviously on a wicket like this, as I said, 170 to 180 is a good score. But at the same time, you know, you still have opportunities. I wouldn’t say I’m a tough guy. So there were opportunities in the game. We just couldn’t get enough of it,” he said.
