Team India cricketer Rinku Singh recently posted a heartwarming message after the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final win over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The left-handed batsman said he was desperate to fulfill his late father’s last dream on the cricket field.
His father Khanchand died in February due to stage 4 cancer. He was undergoing treatment at Yatharth Hospital in Greater Noida before being put on ventilator support. Rinku had briefly left the India camp during the Super 8 stage but rejoined the national team after performing the last rites.
Rinku Singh posted an emotional message on Instagram
Rinku shared a picture with her father on her official Instagram account. The 28-year-old cricketer shared that he doesn’t know how he will handle the situation and move on with his life.
“I have never spent so many days without talking to you. I don’t know how my life will go on without you… but I will need you every step of the way. (I have never spent so many days without talking to you. I don’t know how I will manage my life. I will always need you).”
Ahead of the Super 8 match against West Indies, India head coach Gautam Gambhir welcomed Rinku back into the team. The coach assured the young player that he was not alone. He said that the entire Indian dressing room was with him during the difficult times.

The middle-order batsman credited his late father for teaching him the importance of performing national duties. Rinku Singh dedicated the wonderful championship win to him and wished that his father was physically present to celebrate this big milestone.
“You had taught me that duty comes first… so I was just trying to fulfill your dream on the field. Now your dream has come true… I just feel that you would have been with me. I will miss you in every small and big happiness. I will miss you a lot, Papa… a lot,” he further said.

Rinku Singh will next be seen in action during IPL 2026
Rinku Singh played five matches during the T20 World Cup 2026. The left-handed batsman scored 24 runs at an average of 8.00 and a strike rate of 82.76. Overall, the left-handed batsman has scored 665 runs in 45 T20Is at an average of 39.11 and a strike rate of 155.73.
Now he will return to action in the 19th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by joining the Kolkata Knight Riders camp on March 17. The much-awaited IPL 2026 season is scheduled to begin on March 28.
The talented batsman has played 59 tournament matches for the three-time champions, scoring 1099 runs at an average of 30.52. Meanwhile, the KKR franchise will be aiming to bounce back in 2025 after finishing a disappointing eighth position with 12 points.
