The India vs West Indies second Test is underway at the iconic Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, and West Indies players are donning black armbands to pay tribute to a former cricketer who passed away this week.
After their humiliating defeat in the first Test in Ahmedabad, where the Indians won by an impressive 140 runs and an innings, West Indies will be hoping to show some resistance in the second Test. They have included some new names in the team and made changes in their playing eleven.
Why do West Indies cricketers wear black armbands?
As the second match began at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, India captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bat first. This is his first toss win as captain of the Indian Test team.
Former Indian spinner Anil Kumble rang the bell and the game was about to start. The two field umpires, Paul Reiffel and Richard Illingworth, walked into the middle, and were followed by the fielding team.
As soon as the West Indies players came out, they were seen wearing black bands, which raised suspicion. The armbands were revealed to pay tribute to former West Indies cricketer Bernard Julien, who died this week.
