Speaking during a discussion on his YouTube channel, Jaffer said that Patidar has the temperament and technique to represent India in all formats of the game. Despite his stellar performances for RCB, he could not take advantage of his chances.

“He is a player who is capable of playing in all three formats because he has the technique, flair and shots. It is just about carrying things forward at the international level. So if he performs well in this IPL and scores runs, he will definitely make a name for himself,” he said.

“Even in Test cricket, I think he should not be overlooked because he has the technique and ability to play that format. It is unfortunate that he got out and could not score runs when he got the opportunities, but he has the game to be successful at the international level.”

Wasim Jaffer on Rajat Patidar’s red-ball debut: “It’s unfortunate that he hasn’t been able to score runs in Test cricket.”

The former Indian Test batsman recalled the time when the RCB captain was selected for the Indian team. But he recalled that Rajat Patidar had made his debut for India against England in 2024.

The 32-year-old cricketer from Madhya Pradesh had then missed out on promising performances in that series. After three matches, he could not score more than 63 runs in 6 innings at an average of just 10.50.

Jaffer said, “It’s unfortunate that he couldn’t score runs in Test cricket, although he got a very good opportunity in India. I was a bit surprised because we saw a lot of soft dismissals in that series, and it was a big opportunity which he couldn’t fully capitalize on.”

He further said, “I was surprised myself because I expected him to score runs the way he plays. He has that ability.”

“The way he was hitting sixes, it seemed like he could hit every ball” – Wasim Jaffer

Wasim Jaffer said that Rajat Patidar is in very good form after his brilliant innings against Rajasthan Royals. In three matches, the RCB captain has managed to score 142 runs at an average of 71 and a strike rate of 200, which also includes one half-century.

“Rajat Patidar looks in good form. The way he hits sixes, as we know, it seems like his form is coming back. The way he was hitting sixes, it looked like he could hit every ball.”

Wasim Jaffer said in the same discussion, “So these are positive signs without any doubt. RCB have lost their first match, so there is no need to worry too much, but there are some things missing which they have to fix.”
