RCB bowler rewrites history, surpasses all New Zealand legends to become the greatest bowler of all time

A ruthless New Zealand side dealt a blow to the West Indies at Mount Maunganui on Monday, December 22, as they won the third and final Test by a huge margin of 323 runs and clinched the home series 2-0.

The final Test match ended shortly after tea on Day 5, with West Indies being bowled out for just 138 runs while chasing a tough target of 462 runs at Mount Maunganui. They were completely outclassed on the worn pitch on the fifth day, which had uneven bounce and sharp movement.

New Zealand defeated West Indies by 323 runs and won the test series 2-0.

The innings ended barely four overs after the tea break on the final day, but by the lunch break the damage had already been done. From a steady score of 87 without loss, the visitors were reduced to 112 for eight as the collapse against the Kiwis was sudden and dramatic.

Jacob Duffy was once again the main destroyer, as he could only add 26 more runs. The seamer tore apart the West Indies batting lineup, finishing with excellent figures of 5/42. He received strong support from spinner Ajaz Patel, who made smart use of the rough patches to take 3/23.

Brandon King was the lone warrior for West Indies, scoring 67 runs, while the rest of the batting order failed to withstand the pressure. Before this, New Zealand had completely dominated the batting. Devon Conway put in a memorable performance, scoring 227 runs in the first innings and following it up with 100 in the second innings.

New Zealand captain Tom Latham also scored 137 and 101 runs in the entire innings. Conway and Latham created history in red-ball cricket by becoming the first opening pair to score centuries in both innings of the same match. Later, West Indies had started the final day at 43 for no loss, with King looking comfortable and John Campbell at the other end.

However, Campbell’s dismissal led to a stunning collapse and the innings never recovered. Duffy and Patel continued to attack on both sides of the bat, taking full advantage of the rough surface, as the touring team was bowled out for 138, allowing New Zealand to win the three-match Test series 2–0.

The Christchurch Test ended in a draw, but the Black Caps managed to win the second Test in Wellington before finishing the job in emphatic style at Mount Maunganui.

This Test series was nothing less than extraordinary for Jacob Duffy. The star fast bowler finished as the leading wicket-taker in the home series with 23 wickets at an average of 15.4, including three five-wicket hauls. He was much better than other bowlers in the West Indies Test series.

His remarkable performance against the Caribbean team took his tally in international cricket this year to 81 and he created history. Duffy has become the leading wicket-taker for New Zealand in a calendar year.

Duffy broke the 40-year-old record of the great Sir Richard Hadlee of taking 80 wickets in a calendar year. Over the course of three Test matches, the fast bowler bowled over 154 overs and led New Zealand’s attack against the West Indies with his tireless efforts.
