Australian middle-order batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk has pulled out of the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) starting on March 26. He was to play for Rawalpindi Pindies, one of the new PSL franchises. Since he is no longer a part of the league, the franchise is set to announce his replacement before the tournament.
It has been widely claimed that in place of the aggressive Australian batsman, another Australian batsman Usman Khawaja could join the Rawalpindi Pindies. With extensive experience at the top level of the game, Khawaja can be a good replacement for the team. If Khawaja comes on board then he can also help the team with his leadership qualities.
Usman Khawaja to replace Jake Fraser-McGurk in PSL 2026
The Pakistan Super League has suffered another blow, as several foreign players have opted not to play ahead of the opening of the tournament. Just days before the start of the league, the withdrawal of Jack Fraser-McGurk was a major blow to the PSL team.
The 23-year-old is a proven T20 batsman and an exciting talent who can be a prospect for any team around the world. Pakistan cricket fans were eagerly waiting for a batsman like him to play in this year’s league.
The official announcement regarding Jake Fraser-McGurk’s return came a day earlier
“Jake Fraser-McGurk has opted out of the tournament due to personal reasons. We respect his decision and wish him well. His replacement will be announced soon,” the franchise wrote on Twitter.
After a short time, the post was removed from the team’s official social media accounts, but evidence of it remains, as many followers shared or reposted the information. Later, the franchise owner himself wished the batsman all the best for the days to come.
Rawalpindi Pindiz owner Ahsan Tahir wrote on his ‘X’ post: “Unfortunate, but best wishes to JFM from Pakistan and Rawalpindi.”
Why signing Usman Khawaja could be a great move for Rawalpindi Pindis?
Jake Fraser-McGurk remained unsold and failed to attract a buyer in the PSL’s inaugural player auction. Later the franchise signed him directly. The upcoming PSL season, scheduled to run from March 26 to May 3, will feature eight teams, including two new entrants – Rawalpindi and Hyderabad Kingsmen. This time the tournament will host 44 matches in 39 days.

On the other hand, 39-year-old Usman Khawaja is an experienced campaigner. The batsman had recently captained the Big Bash League (BBL) team Brisbane Heat. With all his expectations and technical abilities, the batsman can provide strength in the batting order.
Usman Khawaja, who is originally from Pakistan, has previously played for Islamabad United in the league. During the 2020–21 PSL season, the batsman played 7 matches for Islamabad and scored a total of 246 runs with a batting average of over 49 and a strike rate of 152.79. If he can do the same against Rawalpindi, then Jake Fraser-McGurk’s absence will not trouble the team in any way.
