The conditions on the field are hot and humid even at the time of the toss. As the match progresses, the pitch will become drier and it will be difficult for the batsmen in the second innings. Keeping in mind the condition and nature of the pitch, Team India has kept three spinners Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav and Manav Suthar in the playing eleven.
After winning the toss, Indian captain Shubman Gill decided to bat first.

“We will bat first. There is a lot of heat and humidity. It will get slower and shorter. Very special, I have grown up playing here. It is a privilege for me to captain here. The preparation has been good. Had a good few days of sleep. Then after nine Test matches, we have got a lot of home Test matches. It is about getting the right combination. We have given debut to Manav Suthar.

When the board was announcing the team for the one-off Test, chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Jadeja has been dropped from the team due to workload management.
