The ICC was a major step taken by the selectors before the new cycle of the World Test Championship. The two did a wonderful job in England together, both batting and leadership.

However, Rishabh Pant was part of an unfortunate incident that seriously injured him. During the fourth Test against England at Old Trafford in Manchester, playing a predetermined reverse sweep from Chris Woakes, he reduced the ball on his boot, causing him to face a fracture leg.

He is currently undergoing his rehabilitation program and will not be able to achieve fitness for the West Indies Test series. In his absence, the selectors nominated Ravindra Jadez as the deputy of Shubman Gill in the test team.

Speaking before the first Test against the West Indies in Ahmedabad, Ravindra Jadeja said that getting the role of a surprising leadership inspires him to do special things for the team.

“He didn’t say anything to me. He just announced the team and I saw that VC was written in addition to my name, so I was very happy. And as a player, you always get confidence. Whenever you see some kind of gesture from management, captain and coach. At the end of the day, you are always happy to do good and share your experience with the team.”

Jadeja further said that he feels honored after getting a vice-captaincy role and will thrive under this additional responsibility in matches against the West Indies. He said:

“This is very special to me as a player. He gave me respect because the management, captain and coach have decided to give me some additional responsibility.

“I am very happy to do it and whenever the team needs my experience and I need to say anything about the plan, I am always happy to do it.”

I think he has become our number 6 batsman – Shubman Gill

Recently, Captain Shubman Gill praised Ravindra Jadeja for his extraordinary performance with the bat in Test cricket, saying that he had become India’s number 6 batsman. In particular, Jadeja took an average of 69.37 with bat in seven Test matches in 2025.

“I think in the last few years, the kind of form he has shown, we always knew … playing Jaddu Bhai in India is always a difficult aspect (in the opposite side). The kind of form he has shown with the bat is the reason why I think he has become our number 6 batsman in Test matches. I think in the last two years, he is tremendous.”
