India national cricket team’s veteran spin-bowling all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is not happy after being dropped from the ODI squad for the series against Australia national cricket team.

Speaking at a press conference, Ravindra Jadeja has made it clear that he wants to play in another ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup for the India national cricket team in 2027.

Ajit Agarkar did not select Ravindra Jadeja for Australia tour

Thanks to his excellent fitness, the 36-year-old is at the peak of his powers and has been doing wonders with both bat and ball in Test cricket. He has made incredible improvements in his batting and has been one of India’s top batsmen in Test cricket over the last few years.

Not only with the bat, Jadeja has also been sensational with the ball for India and he has once again shown his powerful style in the ongoing series against West Indies at home.

He won the Player of the Series award in the opening match of India’s Test series against the West Indies for his all-round heroics and on the same day, Ajit Agarkar dropped him from the ODI squad for the tour of Australia.

The senior all-rounder did not find a place in the ODI squad as the selectors decided to pick Axar Patel, Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav as the three spin-bowling options. Jadeja’s omission surprised many as he was part of India’s last ODI assignment – ICC Champions Trophy 2025 – and played a key role in the win.

“I want to play the 2027 World Cup” – Ravindra Jadeja

Speaking to reporters after the second day’s play against West Indies in Delhi, Jadeja openly expressed his desire to play the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027.

He also talked about his ODI snub and revealed that the selection committee and captain tried to explain the reason to him, which he did not understand.

“I obviously want to play the 2027 World Cup. It’s always a selection call. The good thing is that the selectors and the captain talked to me and explained and I didn’t understand the reason. Everyone’s dream is to win the ODI World Cup,” Ravindra Jadeja was quoted as saying by Vimal Kumar.

Notably, when Ajit Agarkar was asked the reason for leaving out Ravindra Jadeja, he said that they could only take one left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder for the Australia tour; Therefore, Axar Patel got the nod before Jadeja. However, he made it clear that Jadeja was still in the scheme of things.

Ravindra Jadeja showcased his skills

During the same interaction with the media, Jadeja decided to show off his extraordinary all-round skills, saying that he becomes a batsman on batting-friendly surfaces and a bowler on spin-friendly pitches.

“I become a batsman on the batting wicket and a bowler on the bowling wicket,” said the champion all-rounder.

Talking about the track at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium not getting much turn, he said:

“I’m not surprised. We have asked for a slow turn. We have not asked for a rank turner.”

The senior all-rounder was full of praise for captain Shubman Gill as well as the extremely talented opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. He said:

“As a captain, Shubman Gill has been doing well since the England series. The younger generation is taking more responsibility. People like Yashasvi Jaiswal do not leave the responsibility to others to get the job done.”
