Chennai Super Kings (CSK) veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is allegedly watching the Indian Premier League (IPL) to leave the team before the 2026 season. Abhayavin has asked the upcoming player to be released before the auction between Sanju Samson’s trade reports for a five -time IPL champion.
Ashwin returned to Chennai Super Kings after being purchased for ₹ 9.75 crore in 2025 IPL auction. He also played for the team from 2008 to 2015. The off-spinner failed to live up to expectations during the recent season.
Ashwin took only 7 wickets in nine matches at an expensive economy rate of 9.1. He was dropped from the XI to play at the later stages of the tournament.

According to a Cricbuzz report, Ravichandran is likely to participate in Ashwin and Chennai Super Kings. While it has not been officially confirmed, it was reported that the off-spinner has decided to move beyond the franchise.
The exact reasons behind this are unclear, but Ashwin has communicated his intentions to the team. Meanwhile, senior CSK figures including MS Dhoni and Ruturaj Gikwad are discussing about the strategies and plans for the upcoming season in Chennai.
The report said, “Ashwin, one of the greatest match winners for India in Red-Ball cricket, is likely to participate with the Super Kings Franchisee.”
“The exact cause of unavoidable separation is not immediately clear, but the experienced offpinner is believed to have made up his mind and is understood that it tells the franchise.”
The report said Ravichandran Ashwin is expected to step down from his post as director of operations at CSK Academy. He has played this role for the last one year.
There is a possibility of joining a separate franchise, as maintaining the role of its CSK along with playing for another team can cause a conflict of interests, which Ashwin is allegedly eager to escape.
