As Cricbuzz reported, the veteran spinner bowled a few overs before being ruled out of the tournament altogether. The franchise has included experienced Australian spinner Peter Siddle in the team as a replacement.

After retiring from the Indian Premier League (IPL), Ashwin aimed to gain experience in other franchise leagues around the world. He keeps away from his desire due to the worry of repeated injury.

Ravichandran Ashwin released an emotional post.

Major League Cricket club, San Francisco Unicorns also spoke on the occasion. On the club’s part, the team’s general manager mentioned that it was a disappointing moment for them to lose a player like Ashwin, whose performances on and off the field during his short stint with the franchise were beyond the pale.

San Francisco Unicorns general manager of cricket performance Graham Manou said, “It is naturally disappointing to lose a player of Ashwin’s quality and stature to injury midway through the season. In addition to his performances on the field, he has been an excellent professional and a tremendous leader within our group. Ashwin has made a real impact on our entire team, and we wish him every success as he recovers.”

It is noteworthy that the former spinner of Team India was earlier ruled out of debut in the Big Bash League due to knee problem. It is unclear whether it is this fresh injury or a previous injury that has forced him to step away from MLC.

In the two overs that he bowled for San Francisco Unicorns against Texas, Ashwin gave a total of 24 runs without taking any wicket.
