Recently in a development, the great spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will return to Team India, about nine months after retiring from all formats of international cricket. Tamil Nadu -born cricketer will play Hong Kong Six 2025 tournament for Team India, which will be from 7 to 9 November.
Ashwin retired from international cricket on December 18, 2024 during Australia’s visit to Australia. The 39 -year -old cricketer played the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2025. However, Ashwin resorted to social media last month to confirm his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket.

After retiring from Indian cricket, Ravichandran Ashwin revealed that he would play in the Cricket League. He received an offer from tournaments like Big Bash League, The Hande and LT20. However, Hong Kong Six organizers announced that Ashwin would join the upcoming version.

Hong Kong Cricket Chairperson Burji Shroff expressed enthusiasm at Ashwin’s inclusion in Team India for Hong Kong Six 2025. He said that Ashwin’s presence will increase the tournament to a higher level.
“We welcome Hong Kong six to welcoming Ashwin to 2025. His presence in Team India leads the tournament to a even higher level, bringing one of the finest cricket minds and artists of this era to Hong Kong.”
“The sixes are about innovation, entertainment and world -class talent, and Ashwin symbolizes all these qualities. We believe that fans will be treated with a magnificent show of cricket,” Burji Shroff said.

Ravichandran Ashwin said that he loved the tournament. He said that the format demands unique strategies. Ashwin also said that he is eager to play with former peers against quality opposition teams, describing it as a good challenge.
“We all have seen HK sixes as youth on television and it has always been an existing format that I wanted to be a part,” Ashwin said.
“This format requires a separate strategy and it will prove to be high octane, which I am eager to play with my former-partner. I am also thrilled to compete against some quality players in opposition teams; it will be a good challenge for us.”
Hong Kong Six tournament format and team composition
Hong Kong six is a six-side cricket tournament that began in 1992. Each team bowls a maximum of five overs with six balls in a regular match, while the finals have five overs with eight balls. Except the wicketkeeper, every player bowls in one over.
24 teams participated in the final tournament held in 2024. Pakistan has been the most successful team in Hong Kong Six, who won the title five times and finished second on five occasions.
Talking about Ravichandran Ashwin, he retired from international cricket in December 2024. The spinner ended his test career with 537 wickets, the second highest for India after Anil Kumble. He also took 156 wickets in Odis and 72 in T20 internationally.
