Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made some surprising comments about the Rajasthan Royals young gun Yashasvi Jaiswal. Jaiswal has been one of the most important players in the RR setup over the years, and this year, he has captained a few matches.
RR has made it to the playoffs ipl 2026 after winning their last league stage match on Sunday, and will face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur (New Chandigarh) on May 27.

On his YouTube channel, Ashwin explained how he expects more from Jaiswal in the IPL this year. Ashwin said that the explosiveness of the boy is surprising, Vaibhav SuryavanshiPerhaps Jaiswal might have got a little shock.
Ashwin compared the duo to India’s opening pair of Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra during the 2002/03 tour of Australia, where Sehwag was explosive and Chopra was steady.
“I am surprised by the performance of Yashasvi Jaiswal. I am a bit surprised. I expected a lot from him, but I just have a little feeling that Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s performance might have shaken Jaiswal a bit. If you remember the opening pair of Virender Sehwag and Aakash Chopra in the Test, Aakash Chopra played really well. He gave good starts with his 30s and 40s, but the way Virender Sehwag batted, He looked almost invisible. But he did a good job on the Australia tour,” Ashwin said.

“I want to see Jaiswal perform well” – Ashwin
Ashwin analyzed how, on several occasions this season, Jaiswal had given his wicket away with ease, possibly because he was trying to match Suryavanshi’s explosiveness.
Ashwin clarified that in this situation, someone needs to help Jaiswal and talk to him.
Ashwin said, “Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s explosive batting has troubled Jaiswal a bit. He has been out many times while trying to hit the ball hard. I want to see Yashasvi Jaiswal bat well because he has the ability.”

While Vaibhav Suryavanshi has been explosive, Jaiswal has struggled a bit with his consistency in IPL 2026.
In 14 matches, Jaiswal has scored just 397 runs at an average of 33 and a strike rate of 159. He has also scored three half-centuries with a high score of 77*.
Jaiswal is RR’s third-highest run-scorer this season.
