Ravichandran Ashwin criticizes Delhi Capitals and Axar Patel for mishandling Kuldeep Yadav

Delhi Capitals (DC) got an important win against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in an away match on April 18. It was not easy to beat RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, but DC did it.

The brilliant spinner of Delhi Capitals played an important role in the outcome of the match. He took two important wickets to restrict RCB to 175, which was a low score considering the home advantage and the strength of Bengaluru’s batting.

Ashwin urges Delhi Capitals to allow Kuldeep Yadav to bowl all 4 overs

Former Team India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin said that Kuldeep Yadav can be more effective if captain Akshar Patel makes good use of him in IPL 2026. Delhi Capitals have played 5 matches so far in the current season, in which there were two matches when Yadav was not allowed to bowl to complete his quota of 4 overs.

He bowled only two overs against Chennai Super Kings. Ashwin suggested that DC utilize the full bowling range of Kuldeep Yadav. The left-arm wrist spinner has taken five wickets in five matches so far in IPL 2026 at an average of 32.00 and an economy rate of 9.41.

“I don’t agree with the way he has been handled by Axar and Delhi Capitals. Your primary bowler can give away runs at times; this is T20 cricket. But if you don’t let him complete his four overs, then there is a problem somewhere. Sure, in the last match, Kuldeep gave away 26 runs in two overs, but he is your best bowler, give him four overs, let him give 50 runs,” R Ashwin said on his YouTube channel.

Ashwin disagreed with the decision of Delhi Capitals captain Akshar Patel

Axar Patel won the toss and decided to bowl first, which was a great decision of his as the match took place in the afternoon. Ashwin did not agree with Patel’s decision to bowl first. He gave credit to the bowlers who restricted RCB to only 175. According to the former cricketer, the wicket of Tim David taken by Mukesh Kumar was the turning point of the match.

He said, “It is not easy to beat RCB on their home ground. I did not agree with the decision taken by Axar Patel. RCB were in a very good position and from there how did they score 175 runs? That was a low score. The way Mukesh Kumar dismissed Tim David, the game turned right there. If RCB had scored 190 runs, they would have won. But DC has made this tournament more interesting by winning this match.”

Former cricketer praised KL Rahul’s efforts

Ravichandran Ashwin also praised KL Rahul’s batting. The DC opener scored 57 runs in 34 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes, helping Delhi in a successful run chase.

“What he batted, just amazing batting. KL Rahul is sending the message that he can play at a strike rate of over 200; he is a keeper and he has experience. He is saying that he has made up his mind to show what his range is. I am really happy for him,” Ashwin said.
