An entertaining match concluded at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, when Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals (GT vs RR) engaged in a fierce battle for match number 9 of the ongoing edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). The match was full of many exciting moments. It was a rollercoaster ride until Gujarat Titans suffered a multiple-wicket defeat midway through the season.
Ahead of today’s match, Gujarat Titans suffered a sudden blow when their regular captain Shubman Gill was ruled out of the match due to injury. During the toss, acting captain Rashid Khan said that Gill was out of the match due to muscle cramps. Without Gill in the batting order, the Titans’ batting line-up did not look strong enough to chase down the challenging target of 211.
Exciting match between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals
Batting first, Rajasthan Royals scored 210 runs for 6 wickets. Dhruv Jurel, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi were the difference makers with the bat for Rajasthan Royals. Apart from a few moments of individual brilliance, Gujarat’s bowling department had a forgettable performance tonight.
Kagiso Rabada’s delivery, which took down Yashasvi Jaiswal’s off stump, was brilliant; The flying catch taken by Mohammed Siraj in the deep was brilliant. These are the two highlights of the first innings from GT. The first innings was quite enjoyable because of Jurel’s 75, Jaiswal’s 55 and Suryavanshi’s 31 runs.
Big achievement for Ravi Bishnoi
For Gujarat, Sai Sudarshan played his role well as a proven opening batsman of the format, scoring 73 off 44. But he lacked support from other team members. RR spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who came to bowl as an impact bowler, became the premier bowler with his spin bowling skill set.
He took 4 wickets for 41 runs in 4 overs and also completed the 200th wicket of his T20 career. Gujarat Titans tried well, but fell short by only 6 runs and scored 204 for 8 against Rajasthan Royals’ 210.
Rashid Khan talks about his defeat against Rajasthan Royals
Rashid Khan “Well, I think, we bowled really well, especially the way they started to restrict them under 210. I think it was a great effort by the bowlers on this wicket. And then we got off to a really good start with the bat as well. I thought we had a great start with the openers.”
“And then I thought we lost wickets consecutively in the 12th and 13th overs,” Gujarat Titans stand-in captain Rashid Khan said after the match.
Rashid Khan further added, “It is something that has really put us on the backfoot. But I think, if they were there, it would not have been so difficult to score, but I think in that period, we lost the pace of the game. Well, I think, on a wicket like this, 9-10 an over, it is not a difficult thing to do.”
Rashid Khan said, “And I feel like we, to some extent like you, lost momentum at that time and got a little tougher in the long runs. And the boundaries were coming. I think on this wicket, the boundaries were coming easily.”
