BCCI vice-president and Congress MP Rajeev Shukla said via ANI, “The ICC has issued a big statement, they have talked about the spirit of the game. We completely agree with the ICC. Until we talk to the ICC, the BCCI will not comment on it.”

ICC has clarified the position on ‘selective matches’ for Pakistan

Following this statement of choosing not to participate in its T20 World Cup group stage match against India, the ICC said that keeping in mind the “fundamental premise of a global sporting event”, “selective participation” will not be allowed and it hopes the PCB will find a mutual solution that protects the interests of all stakeholders.

The ICC, in a release, said it has taken note of the statement issued by the Government of Pakistan regarding its decision to direct its national squad to participate selectively in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. “The ICC hopes that the PCB will consider the significant and long-term implications for cricket in its own country as it is likely to impact the global cricket ecosystem of which it is a member and beneficiary,” it added.

When did this India vs Pakistan dispute start?

The controversies started with the first match of Asia Cup 2025, when Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav refused to shake hands with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Aga during the toss. This was followed by the final of the Asia Cup, and more controversy when India refused to accept the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi after winning the competition.

Pakistan has not yet submitted official confirmation to the ICC regarding the announcement made by the Government of Pakistan. Earlier, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia was asked about the viral statement; However, he also refused to comment before the ICC’s final decision on the matter.
