Rajat Patidar rejects India T20I selection talks ahead of IPL 2026 final

RCB captain Rajat Patidar has dismissed any concerns over his selection in the Indian T20 team, while speculations are rife over his appointment as the next captain of the Indian team.

Rajat Patidar is one of the most successful captains in the history of IPL. He was appointed captain before the start of IPL 2025 and has been leading by example ever since. Appointed as the captain of RCB, he has won 21 of his 31 matches in the season.

Along with his excellent leadership qualities, his batting form has also been commendable, especially this season. Patidar has evolved with his batting prowess and taken his ball-striking ability to a whole new level. Despite the high pace of scoring, he continues to perform well.

Rajat Patidar unhappy with India’s selection; RCB captain wants to focus on IPL 2026 final

Rajat Patidar’s excellent form should promote him to a worthy spot in the Indian T20I team. However, no such claim has been made yet, as India do not have any T20I series scheduled immediately.

Some reports also claimed that India would aim for a change in captaincy citing Suryakumar Yadav’s poor form with the bat. Both successful IPL captains Shreyas Iyer and Rajat Patidar have been backed by cricket experts and fans to replace him.

However, in the pre-final conference, captain Patidar revealed that he is not worried about the selection at the moment and wants to focus on winning the title for the second consecutive time. “Rajat Patidar said, I am not expecting anything right now regarding selection in India.

I try to focus on the present: Rajat Patidar boldly declares his success mantra

Patidar’s success is truly inspiring. Despite being young and relatively inexperienced, he has led his team with players like Virat Kohli, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood and has maintained an excellent balance between aggression and game awareness.

Talking about his success and comparisons with other players or former captains, he said, “I don’t think about who did what in the past and am not competing with anyone else. I try to focus on the present and not look back or forward.”

This is one of the most powerful statements made by a young captain before embarking on the quest for consecutive IPL wins, that too a team that had waited 18 years for its first title.
